The Heavy Horse

Posted by Ronnie on December 23, 2009 at 9:49 pm.

For anyone who makes the journey on the M8 heading out or in to Glasgow you cant help but notice the 4.5 metre tall galvanised steel Clydesdale horse named The Heavy Horse, sculpted by Andy Scott, which was unveiled in 1997.
This was something I had always been promising my self, I would stop and photograph but for one reason or another the time was never right until one night I was on my way through to photograph the iconic Forth Rail Bridge and noticed the horse in silhouette against the setting sun and took the opportunity to stop and take this photograph.

HDR Photography

Posted by Ronnie on December 22, 2009 at 8:19 pm.

I have been meaning to do some HDR photography again for some time now.

HRD or High-dynamic-range photographs are achieved by capturing multiple standard photographs, using exposure bracketing, and then merging them into an HDR image.

Any camera that allows manual over- or under-exposure of a photo can be used to create an HDR images.

On a recent visit to the city of York I thought I would have a go at photographing the Shambles. The Shambles in the evening is the perfect location for producing a good HDR image. Here is the result and I will let you be the judge if it is good or not. Feel free to make a comment.

The image was shot using a Canon 5D Mk11 with a 24 – 105mm  f/4L IS USM lens with an aperture of f/10 with three exposures at 1 second, 4 seconds and 15 seconds. The final HDR image was created using photomatix Pro and the finishing touches in Photoshop CS4 and Topaz Labs.
